About Govt Women's Polytechnic Mysore

Government Women's Polytechnic Mysore is a state-run diploma-level technical institution specifically for women students, under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Mysuru — Karnataka's second-largest city and former royal capital. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka. Government Women's Polytechnics are established with a specific mandate: providing a safe, supportive single-gender technical education environment that removes the social and infrastructural barriers that disproportionately reduce women's participation in diploma engineering programmes in mixed-gender institutions.

Government Women's Polytechnic Mysore offers three-year Diploma programmes in engineering disciplines typically including Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering — 3,000 hours of structured learning across six semesters per the KBTE curriculum. Fees are approximately Rs. 3,000–5,000 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. SC/ST and other government scholarship schemes provide full or partial fee reimbursement for eligible women students.

Mysuru's industrial profile — BEML (Bharat Earth Movers Limited), Kirloskar Electric, Infosys Mysuru campus, textile mills, and a growing IT and BPO sector — creates local employment demand for technically qualified women graduates. Karnataka government recruitment through KPSC and PSU technical examinations increasingly reflects gender diversity mandates, creating government sector pathways for women diploma holders. The lateral entry pathway allows diploma holders to join the second year of BE programmes at VTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Mysuru, with JSS Academy of Technical Education, SJCE, and NIE among the colleges that accept lateral entry candidates.
