About Central Institute of Plastics Engineering (CIPET)
Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Mysuru, is a branch of CIPET — a premier national institution established in 1968 under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. CIPET operates 40+ centres across India and is the only national-level institution specifically dedicated to plastics engineering, technology, and management education. The Mysuru centre serves Karnataka, providing CIPET's standard academic and training programmes to students from the state. The institution is approved by AICTE and functions under central government auspices.
CIPET Mysuru offers programmes in Plastics Technology including Diploma in Plastics Technology (DPT), Post-Diploma in Plastics Processing and Testing (PDPPT), B.Tech in Plastics Technology, and short-term skill development courses in CAD/CAM for Plastics, Injection Moulding, and related disciplines. Students trained at CIPET work with injection moulding machines, blow moulding, extrusion, thermoforming, and polymer testing equipment. The curriculum is industry-aligned with the plastics processing sector. CIPET conducts Testing and Quality Services (TQS) — laboratory testing of plastics and polymer materials — serving industry clients alongside its academic programmes.
India's plastics industry is one of the world's largest, with Karnataka having significant plastics processing, packaging, automotive components, and consumer goods manufacturing clusters in Bangalore, Mysuru, and Hubli. CIPET Mysuru connects this industrial demand to technically trained plastics engineers. CIPET graduates are absorbed by plastics compounders, injection moulders, packaging manufacturers, automotive Tier-1 suppliers, and FMCG companies. The CIPET brand carries national recognition — employers across India recruit CIPET diploma and degree holders with a level of trust that local polytechnic plastics programmes cannot match.
