Admission Process
KCET: Qualify KCET and participate in KEA's counselling. GIET is listed under Dakshina Kannada district. Students from Moodbidri, Karkala and surrounding taluks with KCET ranks below the GEC cutoff consider private colleges like GIET as the local engineering option.
COMEDK: COMEDK qualifiers apply through COMEDK's centralised process.
Moodbidri's Three-College Engineering Cluster
Moodbidri town has three AICTE-approved private engineering colleges: Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology, Dr MV Shetty Institute of Technology, and GIET. This concentration in a single town of approximately 30,000 people reflects the strong educational emphasis in Dakshina Kannada — parents in the region invest heavily in children's higher education, creating sufficient demand to sustain multiple engineering institutions in a small town. For students, having multiple VTU-affiliated engineering options in the same town means proximity competition that encourages all three institutions to maintain quality standards.
Coastal Karnataka Gulf Employment Channel
Like other Moodbidri and Dakshina Kannada engineering colleges, GIET graduates benefit from coastal Karnataka's established Gulf employment diaspora. The UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia construction and industrial sectors have historically employed large numbers of Dakshina Kannada engineers, with active referral networks maintained by existing expatriate communities. This Gulf employment channel is a distinct career pathway for GIET Civil and Mechanical Engineering graduates not available to engineering graduates from most other Karnataka districts.
