About Alva's Institute of Engineering & Technology
Alva's Institute of Engineering and Technology (AIET) is a private engineering college located in Moodbidri, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka. Approved by AICTE and affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi, AIET is managed by the Alva's Education Foundation, a prominent educational trust in coastal Karnataka. The college is part of the Alva's group of institutions that include a medical college, nursing college, arts and commerce colleges in the Moodbidri campus, creating a comprehensive educational township in the foothills of the Western Ghats.
AIET admits Karnataka students through KCET and others through COMEDK UGET. With an intake of 300 students, AIET serves students from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and surrounding coastal Karnataka districts who prefer studying in the coastal belt rather than relocating to Bangalore.

Alva's Nudisiri — Cultural Significance
Alva's Nudisiri is one of South India's largest folk arts and cultural festivals, organised annually by the Alva's Education Foundation at the Moodbidri campus. Attracting thousands of participants and artists from across Karnataka, Nudisiri is a significant cultural event that reflects the Alva's group's deep engagement with Karnataka's folk traditions, Tulu culture and coastal Karnataka identity. For students at AIET, studying at an institution with this cultural depth adds a dimension beyond pure technical education — Alva's students participate in organising one of Karnataka's most prominent cultural events.
Moodbidri — Jain Heritage Town and Engineering Hub
Moodbidri is known as the "Jain Kashi" of Karnataka — home to 18 Jain basadis (temples) including the Thousand-Pillar Basadi, attracting religious and heritage tourism. Located approximately 35 km from Mangaluru, Moodbidri sits at the transition between coastal lowlands and the Western Ghats foothills. The Mangaluru-Moodbidri-Hassan highway gives residents direct connectivity to both Mangaluru's port-based industries and the Bangalore-Hassan highway.
Coastal Karnataka Industry Context
Dakshina Kannada graduates have historically found strong employment in Gulf countries (UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain) through Mangaluru's large NRI diaspora network, particularly in civil construction, mechanical maintenance and electrical operations for Gulf infrastructure projects. This Gulf employment channel is an important career pathway for AIET graduates, especially in Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Domestic employers in the Mangaluru cluster include MRPL (Mangaluru Refinery), New Mangalore Port, MESCOM and the growing coastal IT sector.
Alva's Campus Ecosystem
AIET students benefit from the larger Alva's campus that houses multiple institutions including Alva's College (arts and science), Alva's College of Pharmacy, and Alva's Ayurvedic Medical College. This multi-institutional campus creates an interdisciplinary academic environment and shares common facilities including sports grounds, auditorium and cultural spaces.
Infrastructure at AIET
- Computer labs with software development environments for CSE and ISE
- Electronics lab and communication systems equipment for ECE
- Mechanical workshop with machine tools and CAD/CAM systems
- Civil engineering lab with surveying and concrete testing equipment
- Central library with VTU prescribed texts and coastal Karnataka focus resources
- Hostel accommodation within the Alva's campus township
- Extensive sports and recreation facilities shared across the campus
- Regular industry visits to MRPL, New Mangalore Port and coastal industries
Career Scope for AIET Graduates
CSE and ISE graduates from AIET participate in VTU Dakshina Kannada zone pooled placement drives alongside SJEC, Canara Engineering College and other Mangaluru cluster colleges. Civil Engineering graduates access the Gulf construction employment channel through Dakshina Kannada's established NRI diaspora networks. Mechanical and EEE graduates target MRPL, port operations, power sector and manufacturing units in the coastal Karnataka region. The coastal Karnataka alumni network in the Gulf is a unique career advantage that AIET graduates share with other Mangaluru cluster college alumni.
