About SG Balekundri Institute of Technology
SG Balekundri Institute of Technology (SGBIT) is a private engineering college located in Belagavi (Belgaum), North Karnataka. Approved by AICTE and affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), SGBIT is managed by the Balekundri Educational Society. The college is named in memory of S.G. Balekundri, a respected educationist and community leader from the Belagavi region whose contributions to North Karnataka's educational development are commemorated through this institution.
With an intake of 300 students, SGBIT offers BTech across five core engineering disciplines and is a recognised participant in both KCET and COMEDK counselling. Belagavi's location as the headquarters city of VTU gives SGBIT students institutional proximity to the university administration.

Admission Process
KCET: Qualify KCET and participate in KEA's online counselling. SGBIT is listed under Belagavi district. Students from Belagavi, Gokak, Chikkodi, Ramdurg and surrounding taluks of Belagavi district choose SGBIT as a local private engineering option.
COMEDK: COMEDK qualifiers apply through COMEDK's centralised process for Karnataka private engineering colleges.
Belagavi — North Karnataka Manufacturing Hub
Belagavi's economy is anchored by one of South Asia's largest foundry and auto components clusters, manufacturing precision cast parts for Pune's automotive OEMs including Tata Motors, Mahindra, Bajaj Auto and their Tier-1 suppliers. Over 400 foundry units operate in the Belagavi foundry belt, employing tens of thousands in manufacturing, quality control and supply chain roles. For SGBIT's Mechanical Engineering graduates, this foundry cluster is a direct employment market within the same city.
The Belagavi-Goa-Pune corridor — with Goa 85 km away and Pune 185 km — gives SGBIT graduates a wider employment geography than most North Karnataka engineering colleges. Goa's hospitality, IT and manufacturing sectors and Pune's dominant manufacturing and IT economy are both within 3-hour commuting distance of Belagavi.
VTU Headquarters City — Academic Advantage
With VTU's main administrative campus located in Belagavi, students at SGBIT can directly interact with VTU for academic matters, scholarship queries and administrative issues. VTU's annual technical and cultural events, sports championships and inter-university competitions are hosted in Belagavi, giving SGBIT students easier access than students in other cities.
