Govt Polytechnic Yadgir

Government Polytechnic Yadgir is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Yadgir — the administrative headquarters of Yadgir District. Yadgir was carved from Gulbarga (Kalaburagi) District in 2010, making it one of Karnataka's newest districts. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka.

Government Polytechnic Yadgir offers three-year Diploma programmes in core engineering disciplines including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. Government fees apply at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. Yadgir District falls within the Article 371(J) Hyderabad-Karnataka region — constitutional provisions that grant local-origin candidates reservations in educational institutions and government employment — which applies to DTE polytechnic admissions. SC/ST and OBC students qualify for full fee reimbursement.

Yadgir is among Karnataka's most educationally backward districts — human development indicators place it in the bottom tier statewide. The district borders Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, with an economy based on cotton, tur dal, and lime/limestone quarrying (Yadgir has significant limestone deposits). Government Polytechnic Yadgir is one of the few technical education institutions in the district providing AICTE-recognised diploma education at government fees. For students from Yadgir, Shorapur, Shahpur, Gurumitkal, and Hunsagi taluks, this polytechnic provides the most accessible pathway to a technical qualification without relocating to Kalaburagi or Raichur.
