About Govt Polytechnic Mandya
Government Polytechnic Mandya is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Mandya — the administrative headquarters of Mandya District, situated on the Bangalore-Mysuru National Highway between Bangalore (100 km) and Mysuru (40 km). The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka.
Government Polytechnic Mandya offers three-year Diploma programmes in engineering disciplines including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the Karnataka Board of Technical Examinations (KBTE) curriculum. As a government institution, fees are heavily subsidised at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year — among the most affordable technical education options in the region. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. SC/ST students qualify for full fee reimbursement under Karnataka post-matric scholarship schemes. Lateral entry is available for ITI certificate holders into the second-year Diploma through DCET.
Mandya District is known as the "Sugar Bowl of Karnataka" — home to the Mandya sugar industry, Sri Krishnarajasagara (KRS) Dam and reservoir, and a significant textile and agriculture economy. The district's industrial profile creates local demand for Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering diploma-qualified technicians in sugarcane processing, irrigation infrastructure, and manufacturing. The KRS Dam — one of Karnataka's largest water reservoirs — is a practical engineering landmark for Civil Engineering diploma students. Government Polytechnic Mandya serves students from Mandya, Maddur, Srirangapatna, Pandavapura, Nagamangala, and surrounding taluks. Diploma graduates can pursue lateral entry into BE programmes at VTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Mysuru, Hassan, or Bangalore.
