About GM Institute of Technology Mandya

GM Institute of Technology (GMIT) is a private engineering college located in Davangere Road, Manandavadi Road area, Mandya district, Karnataka. Established in 2001 and approved by AICTE, GMIT is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. The college serves students from Mandya, Mysuru, Hassan and surrounding districts of old Mysore region who prefer engineering education closer to home rather than relocating to Bangalore.

GMIT admits Karnataka domicile students through KCET and other students through COMEDK UGET. With an intake of 300 students, GMIT offers BTech in five core engineering disciplines.

Admission Process

KCET (Karnataka students): Appear for KCET through KEA. Participate in KEA's Option Entry after results. GMIT is listed under Mandya district colleges in KEA's allocation list. For students from Mandya, Hassan and Mysuru districts, GMIT typically falls within accessible KCET rank ranges for most branches due to lower demand compared to Bangalore colleges.

COMEDK (all states): COMEDK UGET qualifiers can apply to GMIT through COMEDK's centralised counselling. GMIT participates in COMEDK for all five BTech branches.

Location and Regional Advantage

Mandya district is Karnataka's sugarcane capital and home to the Mysore Sugar Company (MYSUGAR), Mandya Petro Chemical Limited (MPCL) and several agricultural processing industries. For Mechanical and Chemical Engineering students, these industries provide industry visit opportunities and some internship placements in the core engineering sector.

Mandya is located on NH-275 between Bangalore (97 km) and Mysuru (47 km), giving GMIT students access to employment markets in both cities. The Bangalore-Mysuru Expressway (completed 2023) has significantly reduced travel time between Mandya and both cities.

Academic Environment

As a VTU-affiliated college in Mandya, GMIT follows VTU's CBCS curriculum. The smaller city environment at Mandya means lower cost of living for students compared to Bangalore — hostel and food costs are significantly lower than equivalent facilities in Bangalore. This makes GMIT a financially attractive option for families from Mandya, Maddur, Srirangapatna and surrounding taluks.

Infrastructure

  • Computing labs with CAD/CAM facilities for Mechanical branch
  • Electronics lab and embedded systems lab for ECE
  • Electrical machines lab for EEE branch
  • Civil engineering materials testing lab
  • Central library with VTU-prescribed reference materials
  • Hostel facilities on or near campus
  • Sports ground and common facilities

Career Scope for GMIT Graduates

CSE and ECE graduates from GMIT primarily target IT service companies through pooled campus recruitment drives organised by VTU for Mysuru-Mandya zone colleges. Companies including TCS, Infosys and Wipro conduct pooled drives for VTU colleges in this region. Mechanical Engineering graduates from GMIT have opportunities in Mandya's agri-industrial sector, Mysuru's manufacturing cluster (KSIC, JSW, Infosys manufacturing campus) and construction sector in the Bangalore-Mysuru corridor.

Many GMIT graduates also appear for Karnataka government competitive examinations including KPSC, Karnataka PSC and banking sector exams, reflecting the regional employment pattern of old Mysore district engineering graduates.
