About Govt Polytechnic Hubli
Government Polytechnic Hubli was established in 2009 by the Government of Karnataka, Department of Collegiate and Technical Education, as part of the state's initiative to expand government polytechnic coverage to major urban centres in north Karnataka. The polytechnic is located in Vidyanagar, Hubli — a 5-acre campus in the heart of the city, 3 km from Hubballi Railway Station, 2 km from Central Bus Stand, and 8 km from Hubballi Dharwad Airport. It is run by DTE Karnataka and approved by AICTE New Delhi.
Government Polytechnic Hubli offers three-year Diploma programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Civil Engineering. Total annual seat intake is approximately 63 students across these programmes. As a government institution, fees are heavily subsidised at approximately ₹4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit — no entrance exam required. Lateral entry is available for ITI certificate holders into the second-year Diploma.
Hubli-Dharwad is Karnataka's second-largest urban agglomeration and an important industrial and commercial hub in north Karnataka — with textile manufacturing, sugar processing, machine tools, and the emerging Hubballi IT/ITeS sector. Dharwad district's rich base of automotive units and agriculture also creates demand for diploma engineers in manufacturing, machinery maintenance, and automation. The institution focuses on aligning its curriculum and practical training to Hubli-Dharwad's industrial profile. Government scholarships (SSP, post-matric) cover fees for eligible SC/ST, OBC, and economically weaker section students. Diploma holders can pursue lateral entry into the second year of BE at VTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Hubli, Dharwad, and Belagavi.
