About Govt Women's Polytechnic Hubli
Government Women's Polytechnic Hubli is a state-run diploma-level technical institution for women students under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Hubballi (Hubli) — the commercial capital of north Karnataka and the state's second-largest urban agglomeration alongside Dharwad. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka. As a dedicated women's polytechnic, the institution provides a focused technical learning environment for women from Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi, Gadag, Haveri, and surrounding north Karnataka districts who seek diploma engineering education in a women-only setting.
Government Women's Polytechnic Hubli offers three-year Diploma programmes in engineering disciplines including Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Civil Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. Government fees apply at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. Karnataka government scholarship schemes cover fees for SC/ST, OBC, and economically weaker section women students.
Hubballi-Dharwad's industrial ecosystem — textile manufacturing, sugar processing, machine tools, engineering components, and a growing IT sector anchored by Infosys BPO — provides employment context for diploma-qualified women technicians. North Karnataka's traditionally conservative social environment means dedicated women's polytechnics significantly expand access to technical education for families where mixed-gender institutions would otherwise be an obstacle. The diploma-to-BE lateral entry pathway allows women graduates to advance to KLE Technological University, BVB College (KLE Tech), or other VTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Hubballi-Dharwad for a full engineering degree. Karnataka government's Gruha Lakshmi and other women-focused schemes further support women pursuing technical education.
