About Tontadarya Ayurvedic Medical College Gadag

Tontadarya Ayurvedic Medical College is a private Ayurveda medical college located in Gadag, North Karnataka. Approved by CCIM and affiliated to RGUHS Bangalore, the college offers BAMS with an intake of 150 students. The college is named after Sri Tontadarya (also known as Tontada Siddalingeshwara) — one of the most revered Veerashaiva saints in the Lingayat tradition, whose ashram and temple in Gadag are significant pilgrimage sites. The name carries deep community significance in North Karnataka's predominantly Lingayat population.

Admission is through NEET and KEA AYUSH counselling for Karnataka state quota seats.

NEET and BAMS Admission

NEET qualification is mandatory for all BAMS admissions. Karnataka AYUSH counselling by KEA fills 85% state quota seats. Current NEET rank requirements and fee details are published on the KEA AYUSH portal. Students from Gadag, Dharwad, Haveri and Belagavi districts consider Tontadarya Ayurvedic Medical College as a local BAMS option in North Karnataka's AYUSH counselling.

Sri Tontadarya — Gadag's Lingayat Heritage

Sri Tontada Siddalingeshwara Math in Gadag is one of Karnataka's most significant Lingayat monastic institutions. The Math's influence across North Karnataka's Lingayat community means an institution named after the saint carries strong community trust and recognition. Gadag's religious heritage — including the 11th-century Trikuteshwara temple complex — also attracts pilgrims from across the region, creating awareness of healthcare institutions bearing revered names in the district.

Gadag — North Karnataka Cotton and Textile Belt

Gadag is a significant cotton trading and handloom textile centre in North Karnataka. The area's agricultural communities face occupational health challenges from cotton dust exposure, pesticide usage and the physically demanding nature of dryland farming. Ayurveda's preventive and restorative approaches to respiratory health, musculoskeletal conditions and seasonal illness are directly relevant to the health needs of Gadag district's farming population. BAMS graduates who establish practice locally serve a community with genuine primary care needs and cultural openness to Ayurveda.

Teaching Hospital and Clinical Training

Tontadarya Ayurvedic Medical College operates a teaching hospital serving Gadag's community with classical Ayurveda treatment. Clinical training covers Panchakarma, Kayachikitsa, Shalya Tantra and Community Medicine with a North Karnataka agricultural patient population providing relevant case diversity.

Career Scope

Tontadarya BAMS graduates register with Karnataka Ayurveda Medical Council after internship. AYUSH government officer positions, independent practice in North Karnataka's agricultural communities, Hubli-Dharwad wellness market employment (55 km) and NEET-PG AYUSH for MD Ayurveda are the primary career pathways.
