About SDM Polytechnic Ujire PG
SDM Polytechnic, Ujire, operates under the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Trust — the educational arm of the Dharmasthala Mutt led by Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala. SDM Polytechnic is one of the earliest institutions established by the Trust in Ujire — the same campus that houses SDMIT (Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Institute of Technology), established in 1979 as SDM's flagship engineering college. Ujire is a small town in Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada District, in the Western Ghats foothills approximately 60 km from Mangaluru. The polytechnic is affiliated to DTE Karnataka and approved by AICTE New Delhi.
SDM Polytechnic Ujire offers three-year Diploma programmes in engineering disciplines including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. As an SDM Trust-aided institution, fees are subsidised. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling. SDM Trust scholarships are available for economically weaker students. Lateral entry into SDMIT's BE programme via DCET is the most direct progression pathway for SDM Polytechnic diploma graduates — the same campus means continuity of infrastructure and faculty mentorship.
The SDM Ujire campus — set in the forested Western Ghats — provides a disciplined residential academic environment that draws students from Belthangady, Puttur, Sullia, and surrounding taluks. SDMIT Ujire (NAAC A+ accredited, NBA accredited, consistent VTU gold medal winner) being on the same campus gives polytechnic students proximity to a high-performing engineering college — exposure through shared libraries, events, and faculty that no stand-alone polytechnic campus can replicate. The SDM Trust's extensive alumni network across the Gulf, Bangalore IT sector, and Karnataka's public service provides useful post-diploma mentorship pathways.
