About Indo-German Tool Room (IGTR)
Indo-German Tool Room (IGTR), Bangalore, is a specialized precision manufacturing training institution established under technical cooperation between the Government of India and the Government of Germany (through GTZ/GIZ — Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit). Indo-German Tool Rooms were set up across India in the 1990s-2000s to address the critical shortage of precision toolmakers and die-makers in Indian manufacturing — a skill that German vocational education had mastered over decades. The IGTR network has facilities in Aurangabad, Indore, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad, and Bangalore. The Bangalore IGTR serves Karnataka's precision manufacturing sector. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi.
IGTR Bangalore offers Advanced Diploma and Post-Graduate Diploma programmes in Tool and Die Making, CNC Programming, CAD/CAM, Mould Design, Precision Metrology, and related manufacturing disciplines. The curriculum combines German vocational education methodology — heavy emphasis on hands-on shop-floor practice with German-quality machine tools — with India-specific manufacturing contexts. Students work on CNC machining centres, wire-cut EDM, injection moulding machines, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM). Admission is through competitive selection. The training period is intensive and directly industry-focused, with strong placement assistance into manufacturing companies.
Bangalore's precision manufacturing ecosystem — aerospace (HAL, Safran, Collins Aerospace), automotive components, machine tools (HMT, Kirloskar), and electronics — creates consistent demand for IGTR-trained precision toolmakers. IGTR graduates earn significantly higher starting salaries than conventional engineering diploma holders due to the scarcity of trained toolmakers and the direct applicability of their skills. Companies actively recruit from IGTR campuses for CNC operators, toolroom engineers, and design engineers. The Indo-German technical cooperation model delivers a quality of vocational training that combines international standards with practical Indian manufacturing needs.
