Govt Polytechnic Udupi

Government Polytechnic Udupi is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Udupi — the administrative headquarters of Udupi District on Karnataka's central coast. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka.

Government Polytechnic Udupi offers three-year Diploma programmes in core engineering disciplines including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. Government fees apply at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. Karnataka government scholarship schemes cover fees for SC/ST and OBC students. Lateral entry for ITI holders is available through DCET into the second-year Diploma.

Udupi District has a distinctive coastal economy centred on fishing, cashew processing, tourism (Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, St. Mary's Island), the New Mangalore Port hinterland, and a growing IT and services sector. Udupi is also the headquarters of Manipal — home to Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), a deemed university of eminence — making Udupi District one of the most education-dense coastal districts in Karnataka. Government Polytechnic Udupi provides an affordable diploma technical education pathway for students from Udupi, Karkala, Kundapur, Hebri, and Brahmavar taluks who seek technical qualification without the fees of private Manipal-area colleges. Diploma graduates can pursue lateral entry at NMAM Institute of Technology (Nitte), MIT Manipal, or other VTU colleges in the Udupi-Dakshina Kannada zone.
