About Govt Polytechnic Mangalore
Karnataka (Govt.) Polytechnic, Mangalore — popularly known as KPT — was established in 1946 under the Government of Madras State, initially functioning in a rented building at Pandeshwar. Since 1954, the polytechnic has operated from its permanent campus in Kadri Hills, Mangalore. KPT is the second largest polytechnic in Karnataka by infrastructure and programme capacity. It is operated by the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, approved by AICTE New Delhi, and holds NBA accreditation. The 19-acre campus in Kadri Hills is located 2 km from Mangaluru city centre, conveniently close to the NH-17 Panvel-Goa-Edapally road corridor.

Mangaluru Port Trust (NMPT), MRPL, MCF, and the region's marine industry provide placement and apprenticeship exposure for Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering diploma graduates. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. Fees are approximately ₹4,270 per year — among the most affordable technical education options in coastal Karnataka.
