Govt Polytechnic Chitradurga

Government Polytechnic Chitradurga is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Chitradurga — the headquarters of Chitradurga District, situated at the geographic centre of Karnataka on NH-48 (Bangalore-Pune National Highway), approximately 200 km from Bangalore. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka.

Government Polytechnic Chitradurga offers three-year Diploma programmes in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. Government fees apply at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. SC/ST, OBC, and EWS students qualify for fee reimbursement under Karnataka government scholarship schemes. Lateral entry for ITI holders is available through DCET.

Chitradurga District is known for Chitradurga Fort (a 17th-century hill fortress that changed hands from Nayakas to Hyder Ali), the Murugha Mutt (one of Karnataka's largest Lingayat mathas), and the Vani Vilas Sagar irrigation reservoir. The district is also a leading wind energy zone in Karnataka — the Chitradurga-Davangere belt hosts large wind farm installations, creating steady demand for Electrical and Mechanical Engineering technicians. S.J.M. Institute of Technology (est. 1980, private) is the other major engineering institution in the district. Government Polytechnic Chitradurga serves students from Chitradurga, Challakere, Hiriyur, Holalkere, Hosadurga, and Molakalmuru taluks.
