About Govt Polytechnic Chamarajanagar

Government Polytechnic Chamarajanagar is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Chamarajanagar — the administrative headquarters of Chamarajanagar District, Karnataka's southernmost district bordering Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Chamarajanagar was created as a separate district from Mysuru District in 1998. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka.

Government Polytechnic Chamarajanagar offers three-year Diploma programmes in core engineering disciplines including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. Government fees apply at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling on SSLC merit. SC/ST students qualify for full fee reimbursement under Karnataka post-matric scholarship schemes.

Chamarajanagar District is home to Biligiri Rangana Betta (BR Hills) Tiger Reserve, Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary, and significant forest cover in the Eastern Ghats. The district has a large tribal population (Soligas and Jenu Kuruba communities), and is one of Karnataka's more educationally backward districts by standard measures. Government Polytechnic Chamarajanagar is the primary provider of affordable technical diploma education for students from Kollegal, Gundlupet, Hanur, and Yelandur taluks who cannot access Mysuru's private colleges. The NTPC Raichur Power Station supplies electricity to the region; local agri-processing, sugarcane, and plantation industries provide employment context for Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil diploma graduates. Lateral entry to BE is available at VTU-affiliated colleges in Mysuru.
