Govt Polytechnic Belgaum

Government Polytechnic Belagavi started functioning in 1958, initially with Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering diploma programmes. Over six decades, it has grown to six diploma disciplines with an annual intake of 420 students — one of the larger government polytechnic intakes in north Karnataka. The college additionally accommodates 25 students under the integration scheme for persons with disabilities. Government Polytechnic Belagavi is run by the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, and approved by AICTE New Delhi. The campus is located near Chennamma Circle, Kaktives Road, Belagavi — well connected to Belagavi city centre, approximately 2.8 km from Belagavi Railway Station and 12.8 km from Belagavi Airport.

The polytechnic offers Diploma programmes in six disciplines: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Commercial Practice. All six courses have been submitted for NBA accreditation. The institution runs a structured Training and Placement Cell that maintains industry contacts, conducts campus interviews, and facilitates Group Discussions and technical test preparation sessions. The placement cell infrastructure is available to all graduating batches for on-campus recruitment drives.

Government Polytechnic Belagavi's NSS (National Service Scheme) Unit has been twice acclaimed as the best NSS Unit in Karnataka — a recognition of the institution's community engagement and student participation beyond academics. Belagavi's industrial profile — precision engineering, foundries, auto components, and the Belagavi-Dharwad industrial corridor — provides practical exposure for Mechanical, Automobile, and Electrical diploma students. Government scholarship schemes cover fees for eligible students from reserved categories. Fees are approximately ₹4,270 per year. Admission through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling on SSLC merit.
