108-Year Legacy — Karnataka's Oldest Technical Institution

Established in 1917, Government SKSJTI predates the independence of India, the formation of Karnataka state and the establishment of VTU. It was founded as a technical school under the progressive Mysore kingdom of Sri Krishnarajendra Wadiyar IV — one of India's most enlightened princely state rulers, who also commissioned Sir M. Visvesvaraya as Dewan of Mysore. The institution has produced engineers across every decade of independent India's development, with alumni spanning the country's infrastructure buildout, defence manufacturing, software industry and public service.

Government SKSJTI alumni include engineers who served in nation-building projects under Nehru's Five Year Plans, built Karnataka's industrial infrastructure in the 1970s and 80s, and today lead technology organisations in Bangalore's global IT sector. The alumni network depth across over a century of graduates is unmatched by any other Karnataka engineering institution.

Central Bangalore Location

Government SKSJTI's K.R. Circle location in the historic core of Bangalore makes it one of the most centrally located engineering colleges in the city. The site is steps from Vidhana Soudha and the Karnataka Government offices, reflecting the college's historic integration with the state's administrative and industrial heritage. Metro connectivity and BMTC access from this central location give students direct access to all of Bangalore's employment zones.

Infrastructure

  • Historic campus with over a century of laboratory infrastructure development
  • Computing labs for CSE and ECE departments
  • Electronics and communication lab
  • Mechanical workshop — one of Karnataka's oldest engineering workshops
  • Civil engineering lab
  • Electrical machines lab
  • Central library with historic technical collections
  • Government-subsidised hostel
  • Sports and outdoor facilities

Career Scope

Government SKSJTI graduates carry one of Karnataka's most historically resonant engineering college credentials. The century-deep alumni network provides referral access across government services, PSU organisations (ISRO, DRDO, BHEL, HAL — all of which have significant Bangalore operations) and the full range of Bangalore's IT and manufacturing sector. VTU zone-wise placement drives for Bangalore government colleges attract the same IT service companies as private colleges. Government SKSJTI's central Bangalore location means graduates have immediate, continuous access to Karnataka's largest employment market throughout their four-year degree.
