About Government Polytechnic Hospet
Government Polytechnic Hospet is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Hospet (Hosapete) — a major industrial and mining town in Vijayanagara District, Karnataka, 13 km from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka.
Government Polytechnic Hospet offers three-year Diploma programmes in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. Government fees apply at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. SC/ST and OBC students qualify for fee reimbursement. Lateral entry for ITI holders is available through DCET. As a Vijayanagara District institution, the Article 371(J) Hyderabad-Karnataka reservation provisions apply to admissions.
Hospet is Karnataka's iron ore capital — NMDC's Donimalai mines, JSW Steel's Vijayanagara plant (India's largest integrated steel plant by capacity), and Sandur Manganese mines are within 20-40 km of the town. This industrial cluster creates the strongest employment demand for Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering diploma graduates of any diploma institution in north Karnataka outside Ballari city itself. The Tungabhadra Dam — a major irrigation and hydropower project — is adjacent to Hospet. Government Polytechnic Hospet serves students from Hospet, Sandur, Siruguppa, Hagaribommanahalli, and Hagari taluks of Vijayanagara and Ballari Districts.
