Bhadravathi is Karnataka's "Steel City" — home to VISL (Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Limited), a Government of India undertaking established in 1923, one of the oldest steel plants in India. Bhadravathi Paper Mills (now TNPL Bhadravathi) and Mysore Kirloskar (Kirloskar Electric plant) are other major industries in the town. This industrial base makes Bhadravathi one of the most relevant posting locations for Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil Engineering diploma graduates in the Shivamogga-Davangere region. Diploma holders from Government Polytechnic Bhadravathi have historically found direct employment in VISL, Kirloskar Electric, and related ancillary manufacturing units in the Bhadravathi industrial cluster.
