About Govt Women's Polytechnic Mangalore

Government Women's Polytechnic Mangalore is a state-run diploma-level technical institution for women students under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Mangaluru (Mangalore) — the major port city of coastal Karnataka and headquarters of Dakshina Kannada District. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka. Mangaluru already has a long-standing Karnataka Government Polytechnic (KPT Mangalore, est. 1946) serving co-education; the Women's Polytechnic was established specifically to expand women's access to technical diploma education in a dedicated single-gender environment.

Government Women's Polytechnic Mangalore offers three-year Diploma programmes in engineering disciplines typically including Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Commercial Practice (Kannada/English), following the KBTE curriculum. Fees are approximately Rs. 4,270 per year — heavily subsidised relative to private polytechnic alternatives. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. SC/ST and OBC students qualify for fee reimbursement under Karnataka government scholarship schemes.

Mangaluru's economy — port operations (NMPT), oil refining (MRPL), fertiliser manufacturing (MCF), banking and financial services, IT services, and an established healthcare and education sector — creates sustained demand for technically qualified women across engineering, IT, and administrative roles. The diploma-to-BE lateral entry pathway gives women graduates access to VTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Mangaluru — including NMAM Institute of Technology, Sahyadri College, St. Joseph's Engineering College, PACE, and AJIET — for a full four-year engineering degree. Karnataka government and DCTE scholarship programmes including post-matric scholarships and SSP credits support women students at this institution.
