About Govt Tool Room & Training Centre
Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC), Bangalore, is a specialized technical training institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka. GTTC was established with the primary objective of creating a skilled workforce in precision tooling, manufacturing, and advanced machining — bridging the gap between diploma-level engineering education and industry-grade manufacturing skills. GTTC Karnataka operates multiple centres across the state, with the Bangalore centre being the flagship facility. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi.
GTTC Bangalore offers Diploma programmes in Tool and Die Making, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programming and operations, CAD/CAM, Mechatronics, Plastic Tool Design, and related precision manufacturing disciplines. These are typically 2-3 year programmes designed for ITI pass-outs, diploma holders, and BE graduates seeking specialised manufacturing skills. Admission is through DTE Karnataka and state government counselling processes. GTTC provides hands-on, industry-grade training on CNC machining centres, EDM machines, wire-cut machines, and precision measurement instruments — equipment that standalone polytechnic campuses typically cannot afford.
GTTC Karnataka was established following the model of Indo-German Tool Rooms, recognizing the critical shortage of precision toolmakers in India's manufacturing sector. Karnataka's Bangalore-Tumkur-Mysuru industrial corridor has a large concentration of automotive components, aerospace parts, electronics manufacturing, and machine tools companies — all requiring precision-tooled components and qualified toolmakers. GTTC-trained diploma holders find direct employment in these sectors. GTTC also provides short-term skill training for working professionals and industry employees upgrading their machining competencies.
