About Govt Polytechnic Davangere
DRR Government Polytechnic, Davangere (D.R.R. Government Polytechnic), is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka. Located on Hadadi Road, opposite the Rural Police Station, Davangere — in the heart of central Karnataka's commercial hub — the polytechnic is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka. DRR Government Polytechnic serves students from Davangere, Chitradurga, Hosapete, and surrounding central Karnataka districts.
The polytechnic offers quality-based three-year Diploma programmes in engineering and technology disciplines to meet the changing requirements of industry, business, and community. Diploma branches typically offered include Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering. As a government institution, fees are heavily subsidised at approximately ₹4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. Lateral entry for ITI certificate holders is available into the second-year Diploma.
DRR Government Polytechnic runs a CCTEK (Community Development Through Polytechnic) programme that extends technical training to rural communities in the region — providing need-based non-formal courses in technical and trade skills beyond the regular diploma curriculum. NCC, NSS, and extracurricular activities develop leadership and personality alongside technical education. Davangere's industrial base — cotton textiles, sugar, steel, and a growing IT sector — provides practical exposure contexts for Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil diploma students. Diploma graduates from DRR can pursue lateral entry into the second year of BE programmes at VTU-affiliated engineering colleges in Davangere (UBDTCE, BIET, GMIT) or other Karnataka cities.
