Govt Polytechnic Chickmagalur

Government Polytechnic Chikmagalur is a state-run diploma-level technical institution under the Department of Collegiate and Technical Education (DCTE), Government of Karnataka, located in Chikmagalur — the headquarters of Chikmagalur District in the Malnad region of Karnataka. The institution is approved by AICTE New Delhi and affiliated to the Board of Technical Examinations, Karnataka.

Government Polytechnic Chikmagalur offers three-year Diploma programmes in core engineering disciplines including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering, following the KBTE curriculum. Government fees apply at approximately Rs. 4,270 per year. Admission is through DTE Karnataka centralised counselling based on SSLC merit. SC/ST students qualify for full fee reimbursement under Karnataka post-matric scholarship schemes. Lateral entry for ITI holders is available through DCET into the second-year Diploma.

Chikmagalur District is internationally known as the birthplace of coffee in India — Baba Budan Hills is where the first coffee seeds were planted in the 17th century. The district's economy is centred on coffee cultivation, spice plantations, hydropower, and tourism (Mullayanagiri, Kudremukh, Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary). Civil and Electrical Engineering diploma graduates from Government Polytechnic Chikmagalur find employment in hydropower projects (Bhadra and Hemavathi dams), plantation infrastructure, and the growing tourism hospitality construction sector.
