Admission Process — KCET Only

GEC Haveri is a Category 1 government engineering college. All 360 seats are allocated through KEA's KCET centralised counselling. No COMEDK or management quota seats exist. Karnataka government reservation policies apply fully, including SC, ST and OBC category reservations and Hyderabad Karnataka (now Kalyana Karnataka) region special reservation for students from North Karnataka districts.

For Haveri district students, GEC Haveri is typically the most accessible government engineering option. The KCET rank requirement for most branches at GEC Haveri is lower than Bangalore government colleges (UVCE, BIT), making it a realistic target for mid-range KCET scorers from the district.

Haveri District — North Karnataka Context

Haveri is located on NH-48 (Bangalore-Pune highway) between Bangalore (295 km) and Hubli (65 km). The district has historically been significant for cotton cultivation and textile industries — the Byadagi chilli market is one of Asia's largest spice trading centres. More recently, North Karnataka's industrial development under the Kalyana Karnataka Regional Development Board (KRDIB) has brought infrastructure investment to Haveri district.

The Haveri district's proximity to Hubli-Dharwad, which has a growing IT and education hub including IIT Dharwad, gives GEC Haveri students access to the broader North Karnataka engineering ecosystem for internships and employment.

IIT Dharwad Proximity — Academic Environment

IIT Dharwad, established in 2016, is approximately 65 km from Haveri. IIT Dharwad's presence elevates the academic ecosystem of North Karnataka, with research collaborations, joint programmes and technical events that benefit VTU-affiliated colleges in the region including GEC Haveri. GEC Haveri students can participate in IIT Dharwad's outreach programmes, paper presentations and technical fest events.

Infrastructure and Campus

  • Government-standard computing labs for CSE and ISE
  • Electronics and communication lab with measurement instruments
  • Mechanical workshop and manufacturing lab
  • Civil engineering lab with surveying and materials testing equipment
  • Electrical machines lab for EEE branch
  • Central library with VTU prescribed texts
  • Government-subsidised hostel at very low cost
  • NSS, NCC and sports facilities

Career Scope for GEC Haveri Graduates

GEC Haveri graduates pursue government sector roles through GATE, KPSC Engineering Services, KPTCL (for EEE graduates) and PSU recruitment as primary career tracks. The government college environment encourages competitive exam preparation alongside the degree. For private sector roles, Hubli-Dharwad IT companies, Belgavi manufacturing sector and Bangalore IT service companies provide employment opportunities accessible through VTU zone-wise placement drives.

Civil Engineering graduates from GEC Haveri have strong government sector prospects in PWD, irrigation department and NHAI projects covering the NH-48 corridor expansion and North Karnataka highway development. EEE graduates target KPTCL, BESCOM and power sector utilities that have significant operations in North Karnataka's electricity distribution grid.
