Admission — KCET with Article 371(J) Reservation
GEC Gangavathi is a Category 1 government engineering college with all seats through KCET. Koppal district is one of the six Hyderabad Karnataka districts under Article 371(J), which mandates reservation of seats in educational institutions for local students. This provision means a significant portion of GEC Gangavathi seats are reserved for Koppal district candidates, making it a highly accessible government engineering option for local students regardless of KCET rank competitiveness at Bangalore government colleges.
Gangavathi — Tungabhadra Basin and Hampi Corridor
Gangavathi is located on the north bank of the Tungabhadra river in Koppal district, adjacent to the Hampi UNESCO World Heritage Site complex. The Vijayanagara Empire's capital Hampi — the world's second largest medieval city after Beijing — is approximately 15 km from Gangavathi. This proximity to one of India's most significant archaeological sites creates a unique academic environment where heritage conservation, tourism engineering and archaeological site management are relevant engineering career pathways for Civil Engineering graduates.
The Gangavathi-Hospet corridor is part of Karnataka's major paddy and rice production belt, with the Tungabhadra dam's irrigation network supporting one of Karnataka's largest rice cultivation zones. The KIOCL (Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited) and iron ore mining operations in the Sandur hills (30 km) provide Mechanical Engineering employment proximity.
