About BMS Polytechnic Bangalore
BMS Polytechnic, Bangalore, operates under the BMS Educational Trust — founded in 1946 by Late Sri Bhusanayana Mukundadas Sreenivasaiah (B.M. Sreenivasaiah), who established BMS College of Engineering that year as the first private engineering college in India. The BMS group has expanded to over a dozen institutions in Bangalore covering engineering, management, law, pharmacy, and diploma education. BMS Polytechnic provides the diploma-level pathway within the BMS institutional ecosystem — giving diploma students access to BMS's physical infrastructure, library resources, and institutional placement networks. The college is affiliated to the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Karnataka, and approved by AICTE New Delhi.
BMS Polytechnic offers three-year Diploma programmes in core engineering disciplines including Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering. Programmes follow the Karnataka Board of Technical Examinations (KBTE) curriculum. Admission is through centralised DTE Karnataka counselling based on SSLC merit — no entrance exam required. Lateral entry is available for ITI certificate holders into the second year. Private aided polytechnic fees in Bangalore are approximately ₹15,000–₹25,000 per year.
BMS Polytechnic students can progress to BMS College of Engineering or other VTU-affiliated colleges through lateral entry into the second year of BE — effectively completing a full engineering degree in 3+3 years rather than 4 years from scratch. The BMS institutional alumni network — spanning BMS College of Engineering graduates across Karnataka's IT and core engineering sectors — provides placement and mentoring exposure that smaller standalone polytechnics cannot offer. The campus benefits from proximity to Basavanagudi, one of Bangalore's established educational and commercial hubs.
