KCET 2026 Results, Expected Cutoff, Counselling and Rank Wise College List

KCET 2026 was conducted on April 23 and 24, 2026 by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). If you just finished the exam, here is everything you need to know — from how your rank is calculated, to when results come out, when counselling starts, and which colleges you can realistically target based on your expected rank. This guide covers all of it in one place so you don't have to hunt across 10 different websites.

How KCET 2026 Rank is Calculated

This is where most students get confused. Your KCET rank is NOT based on your exam marks alone. KEA uses a 50:50 formula:

Component Weightage How it Works
KCET Exam Marks 50% Your marks in Physics + Chemistry + Maths (out of 180) normalised to 50%
2nd PUC / Class 12 Marks 50% Physics + Chemistry + Maths marks (out of 300) normalised to 50%

This means if you scored 120/180 in KCET but have 90% in 12th boards, your final composite score will be significantly better than someone who scored 130/180 in KCET but only 70% in boards. The 12th board marks matter equally — this surprises many students every year.

Quick Rank Estimate — KCET 2026

KCET Score (approx) Board Marks (PCM %) Estimated Rank Range (General)
155-180 90%+ Top 1,000
140-155 85-90% 1,000-5,000
120-140 80-85% 5,000-15,000
100-120 75-80% 15,000-30,000
80-100 70-75% 30,000-60,000
60-80 65-70% 60,000-1,00,000
Below 60 Below 65% Above 1,00,000

These are estimates based on 2024-25 KCET rank trends. Actual ranks depend on the total number of students who appeared and the difficulty level of the 2026 paper relative to previous years.

KCET 2026 Expected Results Date

KEA typically announces KCET results within 4 to 6 weeks of the exam. Based on past patterns:

  • KCET 2024 results: declared in late May 2024
  • KCET 2025 results: declared in late May 2025
  • KCET 2026 results: expected late May 2026 (exact date to be announced by KEA)

Results are published on the official KEA website at kea.kar.nic.in. You will need your application number and date of birth to access your scorecard. Download and save a copy — you will need it at document verification during counselling.

KCET 2026 Expected Cutoff Marks

The qualifying cutoff for KCET is separate from the rank-based college cutoffs. To be eligible for counselling, you need to meet the minimum qualifying marks:

Category Qualifying Marks (out of 180)
General Merit (GM) Minimum 42 marks (approx 23%)
OBC / 2A / 2B / 3A / 3B Minimum 37 marks
SC / ST No minimum qualifying marks for state seats

Almost all serious engineering aspirants clear this threshold. The qualifying cutoff is not the challenge — the rank-based college cutoff is. For admission to top colleges like RVCE, MSRIT, BMS CE, and NIE, you need to be in the top 3,000 ranks.

Which College Can You Get — KCET 2026 Rank Wise Guide

Rank 1 to 500 (Top Tier)

You have your pick of the best. RVCE, MSRIT, BMS CE, NIE Mysuru, and UVCE all have closing ranks for CSE in this range for General Merit. Government quota fees at these colleges are Rs. 35,000 to Rs. 55,000 per year. Focus on CSE or ISE — you have the rank for it.

Rank 500 to 2,000

College Branch Approx Closing Rank (GM)
RVCE Bangalore ECE, ME, Civil 500-1,500
MSRIT Bangalore CSE, ISE 800-2,000
BMS CE Bangalore CSE, ISE 800-2,000
NIE Mysuru CSE, ISE 1,000-2,000
PES University Bangalore CSE 800-1,500

Rank 2,000 to 5,000

College Branch Approx Closing Rank (GM)
DSCE Bangalore CSE, ISE 2,000-4,000
NMIT Bangalore CSE, ISE 2,500-5,000
Siddaganga IT Tumkur CSE 2,000-4,500
SJBIT Bangalore CSE 3,000-5,000
Malnad CE Hassan CSE, EC 3,000-6,000

Rank 5,000 to 15,000

College Branch Approx Closing Rank (GM)
NHCE Bangalore CSE 8,000-11,000
RNSIT Bangalore CSE, ISE 7,000-11,545
CMRIT Bangalore CSE 10,000-15,000
Atria IT Bangalore CSE 10,000-12,000
Sir MVIT Bangalore CSE 12,000-16,000
AIT Bangalore CSE 8,000-14,000

Rank 15,000 to 30,000

College Branch Approx Closing Rank (GM)
Reva University CSE 15,125-20,000
KVG CE Sullia CSE 15,000-22,000
Alva IT Mangaluru CSE 15,000-22,000
SDMCE Dharwad CSE, EC 12,000-25,000
BIT Mangaluru CSE 18,000-28,000

Rank 30,000 to 60,000

At this rank range, CSE at Bangalore colleges becomes difficult. Shift your strategy to ISE, AI/ML, Data Science branches at Tier 2 Bangalore colleges, or CSE at good colleges in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Hubballi, and Hassan. Government colleges in district headquarters offer CSE at very low fees (Rs. 35,000-55,000/year) at this rank range.

Rank Above 60,000

Focus on non-CS branches at private colleges, or government colleges in smaller Karnataka cities. Consider whether engineering is the right path or whether management, hotel management, or other professional degrees serve your career goal better. Direct admission (management quota) through COMEDK is also an option if you appeared for COMEDK alongside KCET.

KCET 2026 Counselling — What to Do Now

  1. Estimate your rank — Use the table above or our free KCET Predictor for a more accurate estimate based on your specific marks
  2. List your realistic colleges — For each college you want, check the 2024-25 closing rank. You need your rank to be lower than the closing rank to be safe
  3. Check document requirements — SSLC marks card, PUC marks card, KCET 2026 scorecard, study certificate (7 years in Karnataka), category certificate, Aadhaar, recent photos
  4. Register for counselling — On cetonline.karnataka.gov.in when KEA opens registration after results
  5. Attend document verification — Physically visit your nearest KEA Help Centre with originals
  6. Fill choices carefully — Enter 40-60 college+branch combinations in order of preference. Fill maximum options — it costs nothing and protects you if top choices don't allot
  7. Don't withdraw impulsively — Study the allotment carefully before deciding to reject a seat

KCET vs COMEDK — Which Should You Use?

Factor KCET Government Quota COMEDK
Fee Rs. 35,000-55,000/year Rs. 1.5-3.5 lakh/year
Colleges Government + Private (Govt quota) Private only
Competition Very high for top colleges Slightly lower for same colleges
Strategy Best value — use if rank is good Use if KCET rank doesn't get CSE at target college

If your KCET rank is 15,000 but your COMEDK rank is 8,000, you might get CSE at DSCE or NHCE through COMEDK — colleges your KCET rank doesn't reach for CSE at government quota fees. The fee difference is significant, so run the specific maths before deciding.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will KCET 2026 results be declared?

KEA has not announced an exact date as of April 2026. Based on past years, KCET results are typically declared within 4-6 weeks of the exam — so late May 2026 is the most likely window. Check kea.kar.nic.in for official announcements.

How is KCET 2026 rank calculated?

Your KCET rank is based on a 50:50 formula — 50% weightage to your KCET exam marks (Physics + Chemistry + Maths out of 180) and 50% weightage to your 2nd PUC board marks in the same subjects (out of 300). Both components are normalised before combining.

What documents are needed for KCET 2026 counselling?

SSLC marks card, 2nd PUC marks card, KCET 2026 scorecard, Karnataka Study Certificate (proving 7 years of study in Karnataka), category certificate (if applicable), Aadhaar card, and 4 passport-size photographs. SC/ST students additionally need a caste certificate from the competent authority.

Can I get admission without KCET for Karnataka engineering colleges?

Yes. Private colleges have management quota seats that don't require KCET — filled through COMEDK UGET or direct institutional process. Deemed universities like Manipal, PES, Christ, and Jain run their own entrance tests or accept JEE Main scores. However, KCET government quota seats are significantly cheaper and should be used if your rank is competitive.

What is a good KCET 2026 rank for CSE in Bangalore?

For top Bangalore engineering colleges (RVCE, MSRIT, BMS CE), you need a rank under 2,000 for CSE in General Merit. For mid-tier Bangalore colleges (NHCE, RNSIT, CMRIT), ranks between 8,000 and 15,000 can get CSE. Above 20,000 for CSE in Bangalore becomes difficult at good private colleges — consider ISE, AI/ML, or relocating to good colleges in Mysuru or Mangaluru at that rank.

What if I am not happy with my KCET 2026 rank?

You have four options: accept a seat in a good college for a different branch, use COMEDK for a better college at higher fees, explore lateral entry to B.E. after a Diploma (saves 1 year), or drop a year and re-appear for KCET 2027. Most career counsellors recommend against dropping a year unless you have a very specific target college and are genuinely confident of a significantly better score.
